I’ve known Twitter has been bad for my mental health for a while, but it’s gotten to the point I need to be more serious about cutting it out. Trying to not check my timelines in every spare moment is going to take getting used to, though.

@AlanRalph I'm more comfortable with Mastodon so far, at least. I think part of that is the culture (at least in the parts I'm in), which seems to be less…shouty than Twitter, and inclined to err on the side of overusing "content warnings," which I was initially annoyed by but have come to appreciate.

I switched from a 3rd party app to the official client last year, and have since seen my usage drop off completely. It also coincided with a serious bout of depression around the same time. I haven’t missed it at all. The official app got rid of the FOMO such that I just stopped using it.

@philbowell sorry about the depression. I've been using the official app since the API change that nerfed the third-party clients; it cut down on my browsing time but not enough, apparently.
